Saturday, 1/23

Depart from the United States | Travelers will book their own international flights from their home city to Nairobi – Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. We will work with you to provide booking tips and coordinate arrival times. Pack snacks and dress comfortably for the long journey.

Sunday, 1/24

Arrive in Nairobi | We will arrive in the afternoon or evening. After clearing customs and immigration, you will be greeted by our driver and transported to the Ole Sereni hotel. We will provide details around obtaining a tourist visa.

Monday, 1/25

Tour of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya | We’ll meet in the hotel lobby and set off to explore Nairobi. In the morning, we will tour the United Nations office, which serves as the UN headquarters in Africa. After lunch, we will visit the Karura Forest to explore the local flora and fauna and get some light exercise. Then, we will take a special tour of the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage.

Tuesday, 1/26

Ruben Centre – Day 1 | In the morning, we will drive to the Ruben Centre located in Mukuru, an informal settlement that is home to over 600,000 people. Known as an “Oasis of Hope,” the Ruben Centre offers primary school services to over 3,000 students, health services, vocational training for adults, and income-generating workshops to the community.

Wed., 1/27

Ruben Centre – Day 2 | Based on feedback from the group that traveled with us last year, we planned a second day at the Ruben Centre so we have time not just to visit and tour the school and community, but also to engage with the kids. If you have any special activity you’d like to do with the kids—art, music, math, technology—we can plan ahead and split into smaller groups. We will drive back to spend the night at Ole Sereni. Dinner and lodging will be at Ole Sereni hotel.

Thursday, 1/28

Kajiado Child Care Centre | We will drive in a charter bus approximately two hours south to Kajiado to visit Kajiado Childcare Centre where we will meet the children, staff, and volunteers who benefit from the Brighton Jones Guesthouse, where we will stay overnight.

Friday, 1/29

GRACE Nanana Maasai Girls Rescue | On our second day in Kajiado, we’ll travel by charter bus a short distance to Grace Nanana Maasai Girls Rescue Centre. We will learn about the founder’s history and mission and spend time with the students who are thriving despite many the many challenges they’ve faced. We will plan fun activities as a group before the trip.

Saturday, 1/30

Fly to Maasai Mara | We will depart Kajiado early in the morning to catch a flight from Wilson Airport to the Sentinel Mara Camp in the Maasai Mara, which will be our home for the next three nights. There is a strict 15kg (33lbs) weight restriction on the safari flights. We strongly recommend soft bags. Additional luggage can be stored in Nairobi during the safari.

Sunday, 1/31 to Tuesday, 2/2

Safari | We will have the entire tented camp to ourselves and have morning and afternoon opportunities for game drives, sundowners, and taking in the sights and sounds of the savanna. With our knowledgeable safari guides, we’ll explore the Mara and look for the famous “Big Five”.

Tuesday, 2/2

Fly to Nairobi, Depart Kenya | We will depart after breakfast to fly back to Nairobi where we will have time to shop, have lunch, and relax in a day room before catching our evening flights back to the United States.

Wed., 2/3

Arrive in the United States | Welcome home!
